Hi,

i have a Toshiba Satellite A55 and of late it has begun to reboot when i
switch it on. The machine stays on for no more than 1 minute before it
reboots automatically, and keeps doing over and over. I reinstalled the
windows XP but that doeant help. probably a hardware issue, but i dont
know what. Can anyone suggest what could be a problem?

Thanks,

Dada

While a lot of things could cause this, the most likely cause is CPU
overheating. The cure is a partial disassembly (enough to completely
get to the CPU and CPU cooling system) and a complete cleaning of the
CPU, CPU heatsink and CPU fan (it's very likely that this model has a
"heat pipe" cooling system)

*** I had a similar problem with a failing battery. The voltage would
dip and then come back with either a shutoff or the odd reboot. Does this
happen on line supply as well as battery? If so, hook up a volt meter and
monitor the voltage to see if it dips before the reboot.

It happens on the line supply as well as while using the battery.. I dont
think its a battery issue.

*** You are likely correct. To rule out an external power supply issue,
monitor the voltage to see if it dips during the reboot.

To rule out the hard drive and its boot files, boot from a floppy, CD
or flashdrive.
