Please log in for more thread options Only brightness is adjustable, which is really not an adjustment of the
LCD panel but which is, literally, the brightness of the backlight
behind the LCD. The adjustment is possibly available either or both of
the BIOS setup program, or the power management function of Windows.
The lack of contrast adjustment should not be viewed as a drawback. A
digitally interfaced active matrix LCD panel is, in some ways,
inherintly "perfect", unlike an older-technology dual-scan LCD panel, an
analog interfaced LCD panel or a CRT. There is no contrast adjustment
because a digital "zero-level" will produce the darkest lowlight (black)
that the panel is capable of producing, while a digital "255" will
produce the brightest {red, blue, green} that it can produce. No
contrast adjustment is necessary or would produce a better or more
accurate image. Similarly, geometry (width, height, vertical and
horizontal linearity) and convergence are "digitally perfect". Not
good, but literally "perfect", and therefore require no adjustment.
[Note, all of this applies only to digitally interfaced active matrix
LCD displays (the only kind being used in current production laptops,
however)]
