I'm considering the T-Mobile SDA, but am concerned about the included
software. According to what I've read, the OS includes viewers for Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint, but no actual way to edit these type documents. Is
it possible to install the actual mobile apps to allow editing or to upgrade
the viewers?

Thanks.

WM for Smartphones does not include any Office Mobile applications. Check
the faq at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/about/faq.mspx#2 You will
find those Office Mobile apps on Pocket PCs and PPC Phone Edition devices.

If you get a PPC Phone Edition such as the T-Mobile MDA
http://www.t-mobile.com/business/products/overview.asp?phoneid=611895&class=pda
you do get the ability to edit Word and Excel, but PowerPoint is only a
viewer. There are much better Word and Spreadsheet offerings from third
parties, that are compatible with the normal .doc an .xls formats.
Unfortunately that is not true of PowerPoint. While there are excellent
Presentation products, you get a choice between being able to view native
.ppt files and not edit them, or to be able to edit the presentation, but
the file format is not .ppt. There is a conversion required between the PC
and PPC files. This is not to bad and works quite well, unless you get a
PowerPoint file in an e-mail, and need to edit it. No option for that exists
(yet).

On an actual Smartphone your options are much more limited. At this point
there are excellent third party viewers for all the standard Office
products, but I'm not aware of any decent editors.
