Dear oh dear, what have I done?

After finding that running the defragmenter didn't help my poor fragmented
drive, with its abundance (and nothing other than) (XP MCE 2005) TV/movie
recordings on it, I thought perhaps deleting them all and restoring them from
my backup drive might eliminate the fragmentation.

Well, as it turns out, not only is the drive still just as fragmented
afterwards, now MCE no longer show a thumbnail, star rating, or 'Cast & More'
option for any of the movies, with the exception, strangely, of a single
case, for which it continues to show this information (not sure why - it's
not because that one was recorded since the restore - I deleted and restored
it, just like the others).

Out of curiousity, in case it might provide a clue, I checked
'Settings-TV-Recorder-History' and there were log entries of the form '
was deleted from the computer on by another user or application',
seemingly for each of the files I deleted and restored (even though I never
started MCE after deleting the files - it wasn't until after the restore that
I next started it).

That immediately made me wonder whether there are perhaps hidden/protected
operating system files associated with MCE recordings (lke the hidden
thumbnails for music albums), but after turning the Explorer option off that
hides such files, I didn't see any appear for either the one recording that
MCE still shows a thumbnail, etc, or subsequent new recordings I've made
since doing all this.

So then I thought I'd search the registry for the one recording that MCE
still shows a thumbnail (to see if there was a UUID associated with it), but
couldn't find any such entry.

That would appear to leave only one remaining possibility - that this
additional information is (or, in my case, was and now no longer is, with
exceptions as noted above) stored separately in an MCE/Media player database,
as done for some of the extended information stored for music.

In the case of music, base and extended information can be restored by right
clicking on an album in WMP and clicking 'Update Album Info' or 'Find Album
Info'. But WMP unfortunately doesn't appear to provide any such option for
TV/movie recordings.

And yet somehow..., somehow..., there's that one exception I mentioned, for
which it continues to show a thumbnail, etc, despite my having deleted and
restored that file, just like all the others.

Does anyone know how to restore access to this info in MCE for all the other
files?

It's a real bummer to no longer have quick access to the 'Cast & More' info,
in particular!

Sorry, forget what I said about the deletion log entries having started with
a UUID. Looks like that was a red herring, as I didn't notice till now that I
had had the history sorted by title (the ones that started with a UUID were
old and probably temporary files associated with videos played through
'Online Spotlight' or some such). Once I sorted it by date, I could see that
every file I deleted was correctly logged in the history using its correct
name.

The interesting thing though is that, in addition to there (definitely)
being a deletion log entry for the one movie that still shows a {thumbnail,
star rating, 'Cast & More' option, and Other Showings}, there's a subsequent
(more recent) entry saying the movie was recorded. But if you open that up,
the details show the original recording date from long ago. (It's not like I
rerecorded it right after having deleted all those files!)

So it certainly looks like its somehow possible to get MCE to rerecognize
deleted files you've restored as having been recorded by it (and thus show
these additional choices/options), but the question is how?

(Even if the files were copies of ones recorded by someone else's MCE,
though, why would that be a reason to stop showing {thumbnail, star rating,
'Cast & More' option, and Other Showings}? The fact that someone else might
have used a DIFFERENT cable/satellite TV provider certainly wouldn't preclude
being able to display 'Other showings' by YOUR cable/satellite TV provider -
and thumbnail, star rating, and 'Cast & More' are obviously independent of
any particular cable/satellite TV provider since, AFAIK they come mostly from
the All Movie Guide.)

So how does one get these additional choices/options to show again?!

P.S. Sorry for the long convoluted posts! Just trying to provide all
possible clues I can. Really would appreciate anyone's possible insight!
