Three devices: Getting daring (or stupid...). Michael Moser 12-10-2007

I have three devices a desktop (running Windows XP and Outlook 2002), a
laptop (running Vista and Outlook 2002) and a mobile (WM6). The
desktop's and the laptop's Outlook are synchronized using "OsaSync" a
synchronization tool by a company called Vaita (http://www.vaita.com/).

So far I am always syncing my mobile to the desktop only, never to the
laptop.

Now, what if I try to sync it to the laptop as well (i.e. have full
triangle synchronization between these devices). Any chances that this
will or is this just asking for disaster?

Did anybody try this and could report on his/her experiences?

Michael

Hi Michael,

Having a mobile device doesn't mean all the information type will
synchronize with both the PCs. The limitation on a the mobile device is
that it will synchronize Inbox of only one PC. So if that is a requirement
for you, then you are better off with your Outlook sync program. Other
information types support synchronization to two PCs but issues reported in
the past have included duplication of data and lack in feature to keep data
separate Example: Private appointments synchronizing to the work computer.

Laura:

can I get some additional details for how you accomplish this? Are you
using ActiveSync for the XP machine and WMDC for the Vista machine? In my
case the XP machine is on a network running Exchange. ANY firther
clarification GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

When you connect to the second machine, you should be asked whether you
want to set up a "partnership" (sync with it) or just connect as a "guest"
to install programs and transfer files. Select "set up a partnership" and
follow the prompts.

Any PPC allows two partnerships, either two PCs or one PC and an Exchange
Server. Is it possible you've already used both (one with your Exchange
server and one with the work PC connected to that ES?) If so, delete the
one you don't need (since they're essentially syncing the same info anyway)
and use the home PC asthe second sync source.

(To delete the unneeded partnership from the device, go into Activesync on
the device and select Menu/Options and tap and hold the connection you want
to delete and select "delete.")
