Hi Guys,

I work with many mobile devices from Pocket PC to Windows CE.NET, so
ActiveSync is quite important. I recently loaded ActiveSync 4.2 and now
I cannot connect to any of my CE or Windows Mobile devices. The error I
get is:

---------------------------
Version Conflict Detected
---------------------------
This version of Microsoft ActiveSync is not compatible with the
connected mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest version of
Microsoft ActiveSync and reconnect.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I searched everywhere and could not find this error. Even Microsoft
Support Search does not find it. What use is it having the latest
version but it does not work with all the devices?

Any Suggestions on how to fix this error would be appreciated.

When you connect *specifically what* device, running what OS and version
does this appear? Unless you are syncing with Windows Mobile 5 devices, you
should not install AS 4.x.

Hi Paul,

I work with most of the different versions. This includes WM 5, WM
2003, Pocket PC and Windows CE.NET 4 (PND devices)

I take it from your post that AS 4.x is a no-no when using CE devices
and older versions like Pocket PC? But now, if I load a older version,
will I be covered for all the new versions of WM?

Thanks for your reply.

No, it's not really a no-no, it's just that, if you are only using old
devices, you just lose features by going to AS 4.x, while still being stuck
with any bugs, problems, etc. The code that runs when you hook up an old
device is the same as in AS3.8, with a few things like WiFi sync and backup
of the device, removed.

No, since you are using WM5 devices, you *must* have AS4.x. The old AS
won't even know that the device is there. You're stuck with 4.x.

Now, back to your original question. When you plug in *any* device, *any*
Windows Mobile version, you get that error? That's a little hard to
believe.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply.

When I use a PDA device, say a HP6515 running WM 2003 SE version, AS
accesses the device and I can explore the device.
When I plug in one of the PND devices running on CE.NET 4.2 Core
edition, AS connects (PND opens a socket connection) but it looks to me
that when it wants to create a partnership, I get the error:

---------------------------
Version Conflict Detected
---------------------------
This version of Microsoft ActiveSync is not compatible with the
connected mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest version of
Microsoft ActiveSync and reconnect.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Strangely this only happens with the version 4.x. If I uninstall and
use AS 3.8, I can connect to the device.

Oh I must also mention that the device came with the following drivers
for AS (Windows CE USB Host Setup Files):

wceusbsh.inf
wceusbsh.sys

Don't know if the information might help.
