there was another post on this subject but it didn't help at all. I am
stumped because if I look at the settings in MCE it states that I
am at version 2005, but when I look at My Computer properties page it is
stating that I am at 2002. How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance

are you trying to update anything?
I had this same issue when i had a fresh format and wanted to install WMP 11
i needed the framework drivers and the Windows MC 2005 update.

To get these go to Windows update and find what you need in Optional
Updates, Hope it works for you couse it worked for me!

This is normal. The core OS is 2002 and the version of MCE is different.
Usually, this comes down to a Registry setting that is incorrect.
