I had an A30 wht the same problem. I loved that A30, so I had it
checked out at the shop, and they said that the only option was a new
mainboard, which would have cost me more than the computer was worth.
I didn't want to replace it, so I bought an IBM charger II
(http://shopper-zdnet.com.com/IBM_ThinkPad_Multiple_Battery_Charger_II___battery_charger/4014-6459_15-30159071.html?tag=pl&q=IBM)
I later found them for about half price on eBay. That with a spare
battery enabled me to keep using the A30 for several more months, then
sold the entire package to a student who felt he could do a repair to
the mainboard.(would require revoving and replacing damaged
components, a task I wasn't willing to try).
