IE eats up tons of memory after installing the tabbed browsing option
through the MSN toolbar.
With a single IE instance and 3-4 tabs in it -my IE takes up more than
150MB -it go'n on until I run out of memory and windows prompts for
increasing virtual memory.
Other annoying aspect being that IE starts playing around with the
stats in the task manager. For ex. in the Task manager IE shows it is
using up 130MB of memory and the total memory used up is shown as -say
500MB. When I minimize IE or stop using any of the tabs, IE memory
usage drops down to around 80 to 90 MB BUT the total memory used still
will be around 500MB -I am not touching any other application during
this observation.
Interestlingly, when I close IE, the total memory used will be around
370MB (it frees up around 130 MB and not the displayed 80-90MB)
Microsoft support has just mailed back saying it is a known issue -I am
keen on finding out a workaround for this until it is fixed.
Am using XP sp2 and IE 6
