First off, let me know if this is the wrong news group.

I'm trying to sync my Treo 700wx Windows mobile phone using the new sync
center in VISTA. The first time I connected my phone it was working like a
charm. I'm not sure what has happened since (haven't installed anything!)
but VISTA no longer recognizes my phone. I do hear a "beep" when the Treo
connects with VISTA and I do see a "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter"
under the Network adapters section in Device Manager but it still doesn't
show anything to sync to in Sync center.

I did a hard reset with my treo in hopes that it would solve the problem but
no luck there...

Thanks in advance.

Sync Center is not what is required to Sync with a Windows Mobile Device.
You need Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC). This is still in Beta, but you
should be able to find it, possibly even through Windows Update.

With Vista you do have a new capability that you never had before. If WMDC
is not loaded on a Vista PC and you don't want to, you can still browse the
device. It shows up as a sort of extra drive, though not quite a USB drive.
You can add, remove, view files etc, from essentially any Vista machine.
That's why you get the USB beeps and some recognition of the device. You can
even do multimedia syncing I believe without WMDC. You need WMDC for PIM
syncing though.

Thanks for the reply. I have the release version of Vista Ultimate (via my
MSDN subscription) and it either included mobile device center or it
downloaded it automatically through an update.

In any case, it shows a "Not Connected" indicator when I open it up. To
re-itereate, I am hearing a beep when my device connects and disconnects.

The connection settings for WMDC is to allow USB connections (which is how
I'm connecting).

Any ideas?

Andrew

Checked some other groups. Looks like you still have to go get it yourself.
It seems you install it, but nothing seems to happen until you then hook up
a WM device. Good luck.

Installed the updates... when I connected my phone, it brought up a windows
stating it was configuring WMDC. When I go into WMDC, it still says Not
Connected.

Any other ideas? This is really strange.
