Syncing multiple Pocket PC's with One Desktop Sean Byrne 08-01-2006

I would like to send calendar information from several (2-3) Pocket PCs to
one laptop (so the secretary can have everyones schedule). The two problems
I'm running into are: 1) It puts the information from each Pocket PC into the
same calendar and 2) This is the BIG problem, it send all the information
from everyone elses schedules (that have been sync) back into each of the
Pocket PCs.. so everyone has everyone elses schedule.

Is there a way to do a one-way sync (for lack of a better term) so at least
each pocket pc only SENDS info to this desktop and doesn't receive any. Or
to set it up so there are different "accounts" in outlook so the secretary
could have a different calendar for each employee??

Please help.

That's an interesting situation, but I don't know how you'd be able to
do that with Activesync. I wonder can you use SyncToy to sync some file
from your PDA's 'My Documents' folder that contains the calendar
information with your secretary's calendar folder. Could each calendar
displayed in Outlook have its own file? May not work, but worth
investigating maybe?

I had thought about that.. the best I can figure is in Outlook it uses an
outlook.pst file. You can create other databases and they use the .pst
extension. Or you can import icalendars (ics) or vcalendars(vcs). Problem
is I can't find ANY files with these extensions on the pocket pc (it's an
ipaq if that helps anyone).

There's GOT to be a way to do this.. I'm just not knowledgable enough to
know who/where to ask other then here. So PLEASE one of you computer wizards
help me out..

Hi Sean,

With ActiveSync it is not possible to define a one-way sync. Not the best
solution but here is something you can consider -

To keep data separate - having different profiles is the best way to go at
the moment. You can set Outlook to prompt you which profile to use... So
you could setup 4 profiles (assuming you are going to use 3 PPC's) within
Outlook. Each PPC will be setup with a unique profile. That way the
information is sync'd only to that pst file. Your secretary can use a 4th
profile and keep all of the three .pst files open (File -> Open -> Outlook
Data file) within her profile to access/read information.

To make Outlook prompt for profile, refer to the info in -
http://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/assistance/HP011164771033.aspx

Note that this approach will require you take a little extra steps before
syncing any of the mobile device... like shutting down Outlook before sync
and selecting the profile everytime you open Outlook. BTW which OS does
your mobile device run on?

Thanks for the help Raj, I just tried that and I think I may need to delete
the "sync relationships" already set up.. because it didn't prompt me, but
probably because it was already associated with the main outlook. Hopefully
that will work! I'll post and let everyone know..

My OS on the Ipaqs are Windows Mobile Version 5.0. and windows XP on the
desktop.

Thanks again
