Synchronized Excel file question Chuck 05-08-2006

I have a WM 2003 device that's being synced with two different PCs. On
both PCs I have a synchronized files folder. There is one particular
Excel file that syncs fine on one PC, but not on the other. The
spreadsheet contains 2 worksheets and one of them contains no data on
the one PC. The formatting seems to be there as I have bold lines
separating a couple of the columns and they show up, but no headings or
data.

If I manually copy the file from the PC that seems to sync correctly to
the one that doesn't, that fixes it, so I think the problem has
something to do with when activesync syncs the file.

Both PCs are running the Activesync 3.8. The one that works correctly is
syncing more than just files. The one that does not sync correctly is
only syncing files.

How do I fix this? TIA

Hi Chuck,

Is this issue specific to Excel files only? I mean, have you tried sync'ing
another excel file and seen if it sync's alright with the formatting? Pocket
Excel can read native format as well. So one way to skip this issue will be
to disable ActiveSync conversion of Excel files.

All files, whether they are Word docs, Excel, or anything else for that
matter work fine. It's just this one Excel file. I would think there's
something corrupted in the file except for the fact that it works 100%
of the time on my work PC, and 0% of the time on my home PC.

I dont know if it matters or not but the home PC is running XP home
edition, while the work one is running XP professional.

Hi,

The version of XP shouldn't matter. Since other excel files sync ok, the
issue is specific to the file. I would suggest you open its contents and
copy into a new .xls file and save its contents, then sync it to the device
and then back to the 2nd computer. It seems to be some kind of minor data
corruption that is causing this problem due to which the ActiveSync
converters are not able to convert the document correctly.

Did you try disabling conversion?

1. Open Activesync -> Options -> rules tab.
2. Click Conversion settings and then modify the appropriate file
extensions.
