Hi,

I have a smartphone with Windows Mobile 2003 on it. I am trying to sync it
with Outlook 2003 using ActiveSync 4.2. Every time I try to sync them, I get
the following error:

Synchronization cannot start because this desktop computer cannot access
necessary information. Restart this desktop computer and synchronize again.
If the problem persists and this desktop computer is running Microsoft
Outlook 2000, open Outlook 2000, click Help, and then click Detect and
Repair.

I haven't installed Office 2000 since ages, I don't know why this message
refers to Outlook 2000! I am running Windows XP Professional with SP2 and
have installed Microsoft Office 2003 Professional.

Does anyone of you experienced the same problem? Any ideas how to fix that?

Regards,
George Jordanov Ivanov

Hi George,

Have not seen this error with AS 4.2 so far. There is a KB article dealing
with a similar error - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=824116. You could
try reinstalling ActiveSync. Are you using any WM5.0 device? If not, you
could use AS 3.8 version.

Hi Raj,

I have tried either with rolling back to AS 3.7 and reinstall-ing 4.2, but
nothing seems to work out. I know the article you gave me - it doesn't help
as well.

I actually had the same problem with my office PC. Then I found an article
which advised to put some registry entries for Office 2000 and eventually my
problem was solved. The bad thing is that now I can't find this article
again ...

Cheers,

I _strongly_ recommend going back to 3.8 and doing so with the
activesync install on the cd that shipped with the unit.

In addition, uninstalling 4.x has "issues" ...see
