Is it possible for a Smartphone to automatically sync with an e-mail account
held on our Exchange 2003 box? I know we can use OMA, but I'm hoping it's
possible to get Activesync to work via GPRS when away from the office.

If it is possible I'd be grateful if someone could point me towards a white
paper or similar.

Richard

Yes, this is an explicitly touted feature of Exchange 2003, or so I'm told.
I've never been able to get it to work even though I have a Smartphone and
Exchange 2003 with ActiveSync enabled at the server. I even hired a
consultant who saw my message on this forum and worked with me for weeks,
and he never got it working. So, I'm still using OMA. :(

Yes it's possible as long as your exchange administrator has enabled the
service. Here is a good tutorial

It does work, and works very well.

We used to use a Windows 2000 server to provide VPN connectivity to our
corporate LAN (PPTP - the L2TP VPN connection doesn't work over GPRS as there
is an issue with NATs). If you haven't got VPN access, you may find GSM
dialup gets you started.

We have recently implemented SSL VPN access, reverse publishing an Exchange
front end server through ISA. This works even more successfully (PPTP VPN
tended to have problems conencting and needed lots of re-tries) and is fast
and reliable.
