I have the same error. I have office 2003 running. Activesync 3.8 I have a
dell Axim x3

I can select the calendar, notes and tass to be syncronized but it gives me
an error saying that I do not have outlook installed. Files, favorites and
emails to sync just fine. I don't get this. I don't want to reinstall
office! I even flushed all my data from my pocket (because I thought it
might have some remnants of my old office desktop settings and might be the
cause of the problem). No improvement. Now I dont want to flush all the data
from my computer too.

My next try will be to install activesync 4... anyone knows where it is ?

I have a very similar, but not quite identical problem with a Garmin
iQue M5. "Favorites" synch but none of the Outlook items do.

WinXP sp2, Outlook2003 sp1 on the desktop,
WinMob2003 SE, ActiveSync 3.7.1 and now 3.8 on the PDA.

I can check the Outlook options boxes but get the
Microsoft Outlook Synchronization
Synchronization cannot start because this desktop computer cannot
access necessary information. Restart this desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists and this desktop is...
error. Repeatably. Tried Detect and Repair Outlook (twice now,
being careful to first uninstall ActiveSync before the 2nd time),
reinstalled (and then upgraded ActiveSync), ample rebooting for
everyone, no joy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
