Accidently spilt Coke on a Compaq Presario Laptop's screen and
keyboards

Afetrwards, we couldn't get it to start...indicator lights
flashed...dimmed...

...and the only one that stays on now is the AC plug indicator light on
the very front

No motor sound....no NOTHIN when we try turning it on via
push-button...

What could have fried/burnt/etc?....or is this common from what's
inside a Compaq?

Thx!

Coke, among other drinks, has lots of sugars, and is disastrous
to computer component connections.

Your only hope is to "wash" the inside of the computer with
(distilled) water, let it dry, and hope for the best.

Good Luck!

Remove the battery and the AC adapter Immediately.
Voltage and coke don't go well together.
Take it apart Immediately and remove all traces of coke.
The acid in coke will destroy it quickly without voltage applied
and immediately with voltage applied.
If you don't get EVERY TRACE of it out, it will fail again.
Simple green, rinse, isopropyl, rinse, 99% stuff works best.
Scrub well with a toothbrush for each cleaning step.
Dry, dry, dry some more.
I use compressed air then let it sit on the heater
vent for a day.

AFIK the two worst places to get coke are the keyboard
and display. The High Voltage backlight inverter doesn't like coke.
And the typical keyboard is hard to get apart and even harder to get
back together.

Gee Mike, you sound like you've had some experience in this...I guess
spilling coke and it's effects on computer hardware have been
discovered the hard way.,,
