 I just purchased a Hitachi 7200rpm 60Gb Hard Drive http://tinyurl.com/bncn9
to put in my brand new Toshiba laptop and I cant believe the difference in
performance.
The original drive was a 4200rpm Hitachi http://tinyurl.com/av6fg
Obviously there is a huge difference in the speed of these drives, but its
changed this laptop from being a slow old dog to; more like the performance
of a desktop.
A highly recommended upgrade

Entirely correct. More RAM if less than 512MB first, then replace the
drive. Hitachi, Seagate have new laptop drives. My guess is that both
are using the laptop as a test bed for the eventual replacement of 3.5
inch desktop drives with the smaller 2.5 inch laptop drive.

the 7200 drives do speed up the seek time for programs but they use a little
more power.
you may notice a little less time on the battery.

Hardly. Actually, the newer 7200 RPM drives draw less power than some older
4200 RPM
drives.
Replaced an aging IBM 40G 4200 RPM drive with a new Hitachi 60G 7200 RPM drive
and
the battery on my maxed out (1G RAM, 2 hard drives) TP A31p lasts as long as in
the
old configuration, approx. 90 minutes :-(

Only yesterday I upgraded the RAM in my HP notebook from 512Mb to
1Gb...what a difference!! Don't know why it's taken me until now to
make the improvement, should have done it months ago.

I have a 5400rpm HDD in my Image Tank and while it probably uses
slightly more power, it transfers photos quicker so overall the power
usage is probably similar.

I'd image a 7200rpm would be fantastic......good luck!!
