This is somewhat difficult to describe, so please bear with me. :-) I
swapped a new motherboard into the Velocity Microsoft machine I was sent a
couple of years back - the new motherboard is an Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI. I did
a complete format and reinstall of Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit with none
of my peripherals connected. After the install, I connected my generic
Windows eHome Receiver via a USB hub (I disabled the on-board IR first
though) to the machine, and everything was working great...but every so
often, the IR will, for lack of a better word, "freak out". I'll press up on
the IR remote (an HP-branded one) and the computer will respond by looping
the command - so it will go up forever. It's not just restricted to the
Media Center interface - if I get control and exit from MC, it will often
continue to send the command to the Vista desktop.

I've tried the usual disconnect and reconnect, but that doesn't help. It
seems completely random. I've swapped the batteries in my HP remote, no
help. I tried using the remote I received with my Fujitsu Media Center PC
laptop, and it had the same effect...so I don't think it's the remote.

Anyone have any idea? I'm seriously perplexed by this, but it's effectively
crippling my entire experience.

One question, have you plugged the receiver directly into the system, rather
than through a hub?

Is your MCE IR blaster anywhere near your plasma television or monitor?
Possible the plasma or monitor is emitting IR background noise.

I figured I'd follow up with the solution: I switched to a different IR
receiver. I'm 100% sure that the generic eHome receiver was working just
fine on my old system, but for whatever reason when I swtiched to a new
motherboard it wasn't compatible with it. I switched to an HP IR receiver,
and so far I haven't seen any IR-related glitches.
