I recently reinstalled winxp on my sony vaio vgn-s58gp laptop. And now
my sound does not work. I checked my drivers and they are all
installed. I get a beep when the computer starts. Furthermore, my pci
driver is missing. I have downloaded drivers from the sony website but
they do not seem to help. How can I fix these problems.

Thanks,
LN

Did you do an upgrade ? or a full reinstall, sometimes this happens with XP
when an upgrade from a previous OS is done, you could try removing the sound
items in device manager and then rebooting and letting it reinstall,
Also check that the BIOS is set to plug and play OS=yes.

You need the chipset driver set. www.intel.com and find the Intel
chipset identification utility. After identifying your chipset, find
the chipset driver that matches and install it.

did you install the Sony Shared Library and Sony Utility DLL? In order
to have all your Vaio hardware working you need to install this files.
you can download them from the vaiolink website. After that you install
the chipset driver and then the UAA HDA class driver.

in case you use WLAN, you should also download intel wlan driver and
configuration software. the intel wlan software is more userfriendly and
also connects quicker to an AP.
Also have a look a Notebook Hardware Control on
