When browsing through the file list in File Manager, I wanted to see the
contents of several files (which are mostly stored in text format).
When I selected a file (.dat extension), which then brings up a file dialog
to select an application to use to load the file into.
I selected Iexplore.exe as this can display text files.
I then get a Confirm message Do you want to associate ?
Normally I select no, as I don't know if this will work for all .dat files.
I then tried selecting Yes (Schoolboy Error).
I cannot now view these files with anything.
Selecting a file I could previously view results in IExplore opening with
the top bar as:
"file://\<filepath>
whereas previously it could display the text contents, now it just appears
to hang while loading the file.

Does anybody know how to dissociate file types ?
Alternatively, associtaing with a text reader app would be an aternative.

many thanks.

i suggest using resco explorer
http://www.resco.net/smartphone/explorer/default.asp there is a 30 day
trial on it
with resco you can highlight the file you want to open and then hit the
action button. you can then select open/open with and choose the
program you like to open.

you can probably use Vieka WordPad 2.9 (free) -
http://www.smartphone.net/software_detail.asp?id=836 to view .dat files
as well.

Thanks Tom, that's great. I'll try both.
