Skype on Windows Mobile Smartphone Manfred 03-26-2008

Hi folks,

I am using a smartphone (HTC S710) with Windows Mobile 6 on it.
For cheaper calls I am using Skype over WLAN on it.

It works fine, quality only depends on the speed of the actual internet
connection.
But there is one point that bothers me: When doing VoiP-calls over Skype,
sound is allways comming out of the speaker (like freespeach function), so
its not very private.
The only way to prevent this, is applying external earphones - but there
seems to be no way to use the intern earpiece...

Is there anyone out there who made simmilar experiences, and has a hint for
me?

Thanks,

Manfred

All I can tell you is that is fairly typical. Skype isn't a phone app, but
an audio app, and the device treats it like normal audio, same as music,
alarms etc. The phone audio system is a bit distinct from the regular audio
system, as you might notice you have two audio volume sliders, one for phone
and one for system audio. Might be something that can redirect the Skype
audio output into the phone audio system, but I'm afraid I don't recall
anything.

Hello Javier,

thanks for the "fring hint". It is a very clever application packed with
loads of functionality.
It also contains a native SIP client, which my provider removed from my
Windows Mobile 6.0 installation...

Unfortunally: the speaker problem is still the same. Only the freespeach
speaker is used during calls. Earpeace remains unused :-(

Any other suggestions??

Manfred

As far as I know, no Windows Mobile VoIP application has managed to use the
earpiece speaker for audio. It's a hardware issue they haven't managed to
work around.
