Hi everyone,

Looks like I'm not the only one that cannot get ActiveSync 4.X (I've tried
4.1 too) to sync with my new Windows Mobile 5.0 device. Did everybody just
buy these this week? Seems like a typical MS release before a proper beta
test.

With ActiveSync 4.1 installed, I accidentally had the USB for my old Pocket
PC 2000 PPC plugged in and ActiveSync merrily began establishing a
partnership with it. I deleted that and tried the same with my new Windows
Mobile 5.0 device, and it looks like they try to talk to eachother, but
ActiveSync just sits there with its green icon spinning endlessly. (I've
also fully uninstalled all versions so they were "clean" installs too.)

I checked in the connection created for the mobile device in Network
Connections and the only items present for the connection are the three I've
read should be included:

Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

I also do not have any firewalls functioning on my machine except the
Windows Firewall. In its exception list it shows the following:

ActiveSync Application
ActiveSync Connection Manager
ActiveSync RAPI Manager
ActiveSync Service

This covers the things I've seen on line to "check" regarding all this. Is
there anything else I can do or have I simply been sold something the
currently doesn't work?

Thanks.

Kel

Hi,
Well I would suggest that you call support and ask them for assistance on
this. That way they know what issues you are having and how painful it is
for you.

As for your problem, I suggest that you look at:

"ActiveSync detects the device and begins synchronization. The ActiveSync
icon begins to spin, turns Green and plays the ActiveSync start .wav file.
The PC opens the %temp%\wcescomm.log, %temp%\wceslog.log,
%temp%\wcesmgr.log, %temp%\outstore.log. These logs can be used to identify
problems once the ActiveSync connection has started." From

I haven't been able to find these log files. I search here:

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp

Is there somewhere else I should look for %temp%?

Pop up the Start menu. In the Run command box, enter %tmp% (NOT %temp%; a
typo there). A Windows Explorer window should open to the right folder.
