I currently have Windows XP Home on my laptop. I have recently added
the Hauppague USB TV Tuner and would like to get a better PVR and TV
program than the ones included.

Should I upgrade to MCE 2005 to gain that functionality?

Is there a downside to upgrade?

The version I am buying offers a free upgrade to Vista Home Premium,
so in the future I could go that route.

Thanks

When I bought my Dell Inspiron 6000, it came with Home. I promptly nuked it,
and installed MCE even though I don't have a tuner. I have not seen any
downsides. But recording video is going to eat up your storage <g>. You
might want to see if you can find a 120Gb laptop drive for cheap (check the
Sunday newspaper ads or your favorite online vendor).

Thanks for the info.

I have upgraded the Hard drive to 120GB.

So off to install MCE 2005 when it arrives.

I would upgrade directly to Vista Home Premium since if you buy MCE2005 you
will have to do a clean install and if you get the Vista premium upgrade you
can do an inplace upgrade.
Run the VISTA upgrade advisor first however to see if your system needs any
upgrades.

Another suggestion. Go to www.snapstream.com and download the trial of
BeyondTV. Simple install and it has features for TV that MCE doesn't.
