We are pleased to announce that the SEXTANTE Project (http://
www.sextantegis.com/) has released a first version of his analysis
suite for gvSIG. The aim of this suite is to add advanced spatial data
analysis capabilities to gvSIG (http://www.gvsig.gva.es), for both
raster and vector data.

The suite comprises 161 extensions, including modules dealing with
geostatistics, geomorphometry, hydrology or point pattern analysis,
among others, along with basic raster and vector data handling
utilities. It is still a development version, so not all the
extensions are fully developed, and many of them are likely to be
enhanced or even completely rewritten in future stable versions.
However, all of them are fully functional in this release.

It is worth noting that not only this first release of SEXTANTE is
still under development, but also some parts of gvSIG itself (i.e. the
ones related to raster data handling), which still lacks some basic
functionalities which would greatly improve the usability of the whole
SEXTANTE-gvSIG system. We are working closely with the gvSIG
development team to solve this as soon as possible. For this reason,
bugs and limitations may appear, and we would like you to report on
them in order to help us improve the quality of our software. Caution
should be exercised specially when using extensions dealing with
raster layers, as gvSIG still has some limitations for handling this
kind of data.

No documentation is available at the moment but we plan to publish it
soon, along with new extensions and features.

Binaries and sources can be downloaded from the SEXTANTE official
website at http://www.sextantegis.com

Both the website and the software are only available in spanish, but
english
versions are on its way.

Regards.
