I'm currently running 2 windows 2003 Server Standard. Recently the
security tab on folders properties has disappeared on 1 of them. I
have searching online and posts and have not solved the issue. I have
tried setting

configuration -> administrative templates -> Windows components ->
Windows explorer ->
Remove Security Tab

to disabled. I am also logged in as the administrator. The tab is
missing for all folders. Anyone know how to get it back?

If users do not have read permissions to the Rshx32.dll file in the
\windows\system 32 folder then they will not be able to see the security
tab. That may not be the problem for you but worth checking out. You can use
cacls to view and change permissions form the command line as in cacls
\windows\system32\rshx32.dll. Below is what it shows on my XP computer. Use
cacls /? to see the syntax for cacls and keep in mind that you want to use
the /E switch to edit existing permissions otherwise you will replace
existing permissions as in removing everything [all users/groups] but what
you grant. --- Steve

Thanks for the reply. I took a look at the permissions. It says
administrators have access and I am logged into the only adminstrator
account (which is part of administrators.). Upon further investigation
I have I do have the security tab on some folders just not all. It
appears I do not have the security tab for any folder at the root of
the drive. But all folders 1 level or deeper I do have it for including
on files.

DRIVE (C,D,F)
----- Root Folder (NO SECURITY TAB)
----- Root Folder (NO SECURITY TAB)
|----- Level 1 Folder ( YES SECURITY TAB)
|----- Level 2 Folder ( YES SECURITY TAB)

This problem is getting weirder. Why is the security tab missing on
folders at the root of the drive? Any suggestions?

That is very strange and I have never seen that. I would however run Check
Disk on your computer and configure it to automatically fix any problems
found. --- Steve
