Is it possible to install desktop search on a windows server and get that to
index the drives - and then my copy of desktop search on my XP desktop uses
that index, rather than creating a huge index on my machine?

Not at this time, but there will be a corporate version in the future, which
I am sure will address this.

'Course now Google Deskbar has this feature. I wonder if Windows
Indexing Service supports this also... I've had a workgroup using a
fileserver for a long time and never could figure out how to get the
clients to use the index on the server. Hopefully when MSN Deskbar gets
this, it'll solve that problem.

Does that mean MSN DTS is not using Indexing Service to do its work? I
thought that it was.

Where are the separate catalogs for MSN DTS and for the "main" Windows
Explorer Search, then (ie, the Indexing Service's main catalog)?

Question related to this string but slightly different. I am interested in
indexing my company's shared, network drive, but I am willing to keep the
index file on my computer, even if it's a large size. Is this possible?
When I select the network drive for indexing using the "custom drive" option,
it gives me an error sound when I click "Add."
Thanks.
