I have just moved from an Orange c500 unlocked & in use on O2, to a new
Samsung i300 on O2.

I really want to like the i300 but keep finding annoyances that are
making me wonder if Samsung have really thought this through in detail.

Why is this phone Windows Mobile 2003 SE, yet when I call O2 for
support they tell me I should be using ActiveSync 4.1.... isn't that
only recommended for 2005??

Where is the onboard speakerphone facility?

Where is the predictive text offering up the next word rather than just
the current word? I got used to that & really rather liked it.

Where is the standby time going? I only make a couple of 5 minute calls
a day, a handful of texts, & haven't played any music on it - but I
only just limp to the end of the day on the standard life battery! I do
not want to have the extended life battery turn the phone into a heavy
brick.

Why is the phone running slower than a classic SPV? I haven't got any
extra software installed & my task manager is used regularly to clear
unused programs.

Why is Bluetooth/Activesync still a real pain in the arse to configure?
The manual makes it sound so easy but was obviously written by somebody
who hasn't succeeded either! The options are different to the c500 for
this task too so I can't reliably use the same walk thru I used for
that... when I get a spare few hours, instead of taking the opportunity
to relax, I'll use the time to get frustrated with something that
SHOULD BE EASY!! ... O2 can't offer me any help...

I'd be interested in the thoughts of others who have this phone...

Laterz
Eddie

...& what happened to voice dialling tags? Now it works by matching the
spoken word automatically with contact name. Great - unless you have 2
very phonetically similar sounding contacts.

I'm looking to switch from a SPV C500 to the i300, and given your
experiences I'm not sure I'll bother now. I was never sure about the
extra size, and the battery life was always a bit of a concern, even if
you do get the 3GB to use as an MP3 player. If it's only running
WM2003 then I can't see the point of changing from my C500.

I was also considering the XDA Mini S, but am equally concerned about
the size of the device, and lack of storage for things like MP3s.

I think an instore test is in order :D
