If I want to synchronize my PDA with data on my Exchange server, but
through a new PC or a new Windows user profile on my old PC, there are two
problems: 1) ActiveSync requests the setup of a new partnership, and 2)
Outlook no longer has ActiveSync integrated. I am afraid I will get
duplicate entries on my PDA if I set up a new partnership and reinstall
ActiveSync for Outlook. Is there a way to reuse information from the old
PC (or the old Windows user profile)? I use Outlook 2003 and Windows XP SP
2 on my PC, Windows Mobile 2003 SE 4.21 on my Qtek Pocket PC, and I have
been running running ActiveSync 4.2.0 successfully on both devices until
my helpdesk geve me a new Windows user profile (to solve some unrelated
problem), but I expect the solution/s) may be valid for other combinations
as well.

You won't get duplicate entries. It is still the same Exchange Server you
are sync'ing with. ActiveSync on the PPC knows that so it will happily
synchronize as it always has.

The following pertains to synchronized items that are *not* part of the
Exchange Server synchronization:

1) On the PPC, delete the partnership for the PC that you no longer use.

2) Install ActiveSync on the new PC.

3) Connect the PPC with the PC and let it create a new partnership.
Connection to the Exchange Server will happen automatically so what you need
to set up are the other things, e.g. files and such. Since these do not
exist on the new PC, they will be copied from the PPC.

Thank you, but not quite. Neither calendar items, contacts, tasks nor
notes were recognized in my case, leaving me with the choice to combine,
replace, or postpone. So the question remains whether any information from
the old XP profile can be used to solve this. (The two devices have been
apart for too long to let me select Replace because I don't know which
entries on the PPC are new.)

Or perhaps I am too pessimistic: When the program asks if I want to
combine, will it discover identical entries during the next step?

I was too pessimistic. Identical items were discovered in the next step
(combination). Thanks again for your advice.
