I have the same problem as others on this tread.

My CPU spikes at 100 percent usage and when I go into the task manager to
find out the problem, it is locked on one of the scvhost.exe applications.

Before sending this query, I followed the suggestions in this thread.

I ran an anti-virus search (one of those recommended) and it didn't find
anything.

Then I downloaded I downloaded hotfix and rebooted, but the problem persists.

Any suggestions?

Just turn off automatic updates and go to Windows Update the second tues of
each month then wait for Microsoft to fix it. There are all kinds of fixes
proposed in the windowsxp newsgroups but none of them consistently work for
everyone. The problem is a new version of WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe that
was recently installed via automatic updates.
You can try all the temp fixes posted here but they don't seem to work for
everyone.
