SMT5600 for a phone & PDA... David 08-27-2005

I am ready to get a new phone, and I am considering the Audiovox
SMT-5600. It has received nice reviews, has a great price, and will
work with Cingular. I have a Palm PDA and Nokia phone. I want to
combine these. I would like to ask the group if they feel I will be
pleased with this phone. I have never considered the music/video/etc.
options. Having a good camera would be a nice touch, but I really need
a quality phone and PDA.

Suggestions welcome. And, thank you!

David

I own the audiovox SMT5600. It does a great job as a phone/PDA but there
are differences. The screen is strickly menu driven as apposed to a palm or
pocket pc. The screen size is definately smaller which takes a bit getting
used to. The programs that will run on a pocket pc will not necessarily run
on the audiovox which runs Windows Mobile 2003 SE. You will need to get
programs designed for it's operating system. It will run word, excel, pda,
and power point files with a third party download. It has a calander, and
task list what will sync with outlook, but notes need a third party software
to sync. You can set up pop mail accounts as well. Overall I do like the
phone but it will yake a little getting used to.

Second sentence--correct. First sentence, not so clear.

The phone runs on Windows Mobile 2003, I don't think SE. But PPCs also run
WM 2003, including SE. I think Microsoft didn't make this very clear. There
are two versions of WM 2003, PPC and Smartphone. Software written for one
will not work on the other. (I would take out your word "necessarily". PPC
software will not work on a smartphone, although both are running "Windows
Mobile 2003.) That is the difference in the OS--PPC or Smartphone version of
WM2003.
