How does one restrict indexing of Outlook folders to a subset of all email
folders e.g. excluding the archive folders. Some magic registry setting?

A choice is offered for which file system files to index, but not for which
email folders. I have several .pst files in use inside Outlook and I do not
want to use up space indexing some of them.

Try out the latest release from tonight: http://desktop.msn.com - it offers
you an Advanced Options setting for selecting which folders in Outlook that
you wish to index and it also offers a way for you to specify which file
types to index, and even gives a preview pane for desktop search results -
check it out :)

Not obvious that the link took one to a Search upgrade.

This would have gone a LOT easier if one had been warned that uninstalling
the previous version, in my case more than shot at it, was necessary. Even
for beta, since it is targeted at end users, it would be nice to have the
standard program upgrade process. Failing that some release notes would be
useful, i.e. make sure the following files and regsistry setting have been
deleted before you install the latest version; whether or not any add ins,
e.g. .pdf file indexing, have to be uninstalled/reinstalled/will work fine,
etc.

As to the substance, it appears that Search recognizes my various Outlook
..pst files. Reinstalling seems to have trashed the previous index so
reindexing is underway. Note that Brand X beta offers to keep ones indices
when uninstalling.
