Replacement for Activesync? Lamy 08-23-2007

I am working with PPC and Windows Smartphones for many years and I am
still disappointed of Activesync because of its limitations, bugs and
poor reliability. Right now I am using Activesync 4.5 on XP and a
smartphone with Windows Mobile 6. Bevor I had a smartphone with Wndows
Mobile 2003 and bevor that several Pocket PCs.

In my current configuration Activesync cannot sync 3 of my notes. It
asks for solving the conflict. I chosse to replace the notes on the
mobile and after sync it comes up with the same conflict again. In
addition Activesync duplicates birthday events in my calendar - a
problem which all versions of Activesync had. At least when I start
synchronisation with my Vista-PC at home also contacts start to
duplicate from time to time. This is very annoying, when you change a
contact and get after that 2 contacts for this person with different
data inside.

I know these bugs were discussed quite often in the newsgroups in the
last years. As it seems that this will never be fixed, I am looking
for a replacement of Activesync. A colleague suggested to move the
calendar to Google, there shall be some tools for syncing with a
mobile phone. But this does not help for the contacts. And as I like
Outlook I would like to continue using it. So, does anyone has
experience with other sync tools than Activesync?

There are no other sync tools. There are other sync extensions that add to,
or even seem to entirely replace AS, but they all rely on the existence of
AS and use the AS conduit. A lot of the issues will remain.

Your options to divorce yourself from AS are get a Mac and use MissingSync,
or get an Exchange server and only use Server Sync.
