Hi, I recently had to reformat my computer due to viruses, and in doing so I
lost my activation key.

Microsoft have no record of my details as this is going back past three
years, so I'll have to pay £156 again to get my key.

Is there any way to locate the key without having to pay again?

If you have the original installation disks, the product key is on the
outside of the CD Case.
If you do not have the original disks, then pay the £156.

If I had to buy new Microsoft Office, I would get the latest version. Looks
like the current version is Office 2007.

Unfortuntely I didn't have installation discs... this was pre-installed with
a packard bell on a trial version. I had to buy the activation key in January
2005 via online connection.

Presumably Microsoft would have sent me the key in an email at the time, but
I no longer appear to have it and they no longer recognise my email address.
(The site says they won't remember it for a lengthy period).

Bummer!

If you can not find the email, you are pretty much out of luck.

That is the reason that if I buy any program key online, I print the email
and save the print out in a file folder (paper).

Plus if possible, I burn a CD with the downloaded program and the program
key, the Email and/or the HTML. That way both the downloaded program and the
emailed key are on the CD.
