Is there some trick to opening the back, or bottom actually, of a
Compaq Presario V2000 laptop?

I want to open it to clean the heat sink on the processor. The machine
has been working in a environment laden with dog hair, and I think the
fan is coming on more often than it should.

I think I've taken off all the screws. I removed the covers: battery;
HD; RAM; and another cover next to the RAM cover over the card place,
I think. (I didn't remove the DVD cover on the first attempt. Is that
necessary?) The bottom seems to be held in the center somehow. Is
there a clip or something I need to remove?

On most pieces of equipment, I would be a bit rougher and I'd bend the
plastic up until I found the binding point. But this is a laptop. I
don't want to risk damaging it.

Here's a service manual for it, should help.

Ha. those plastics are surprisingly tough. A few days ago, I sliced
my thumb open on one stubborn plastic bit (the palm rest) whilst
prying it up. The plastic is fine. Another unit required me to bend up
the plastic strip above the keyboard to an angle of nearly 70 degrees
in order to remove the keyboard. Yikes! But it didn't snap either.
