In page http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/aa936107.aspx
Windows Mobile is shown with a red hyphen and
Windows Embedded CE is shown with a green checkmark.

So it is intentional that Remote Zoom-In no longer works with a Windows
Mobile 6 target device? Why?

Was just accidental, maybe a mistake, that Remote Zoom-In worked with a
Windows Mobile 5 target device? Did customers ask Microsoft to change this?

Hi Norman

I have to say I don't quite understand what is going on here. The reference
you supply appears to relate specifically to Platform Builder and friends,
and perhaps that is why it is marked as irrelevant for Win Mobile. But I
can't see the corresponding help reference for the VS2005 remote toolset,
they seem to be bashed together in MSDN.

I've just given it a go - and my VS2005 Remote Zoomin will happily work on
WM5 and WM6 (Smartphone in this case) devices.

So perhaps MSDN is being less than completely clear on this topic!

Regards
Pete

My VS2005 Remote Zoom-In continues happily to work on WM5 Smartphones and
Pocket PCs, but dies when connected to WM6 Pocket PCs. It completely stops
responding, it can't even be closed using the [X] button in the upper right,
and it can only be closed from Windows XP's Task Manager. I sent a few
crash dumps to Microsoft.

So, the MSDN page kind of describes the behaviour that I'm seeing, doesn't
describe the behaviour that you're seeing, and doesn't really apply to
either of us because it's intended not to talk about Windows Mobile at all.
Summary: Remote Zoom-In is working and not working as not designed.

Thats freaky.
Is your device locked in some way? I would have thought that regualr 1-tier
means that having accepted the prompt, all will run fine. So possibly a long
shot.
I'm also guessing that you want to run other remote tools as well. But if
you just want some screen shots, how about getting some tool that allows
screen capture? I think there are a few. My company makes one with a free
trial period, but it seems bad form to plug it on here.

I don't think the devices are locked because there's no problem executing
our own code in at least two ways, there's no problem running Remote
Registry Editor and changing values, etc. Two ways of running code are to
use the PC's "Explore Device" menu entry to copy files to and from the
device and then clicking shortcuts on the device, or to use Visual Studio to
copy executables and run them under the debugger. The devices don't even
prompt for approval, they just accept everything.

(We had some other devices that prompted when the PC ran Remote Registry
Editor. If we forgot to notice the prompt on the device then Remote
Registry Editor would time out with an error message. I don't recall if we
tried Remote Zoom-In on those devices.)
