 The remote control for Media Center worked when I first set it up and worked
for about a week after. Then one day the remote control just stopped working.
I've done the obvious - changing the batteries, shutting down and restarting.
I don't recall ever running the First Run Wizard which tests the remote
control and I cannot find it to run it now. The red light on the remote
flickers when I push buttons but nothing happens on the screen. Please help
or tell me who to contact for help.

 If your "HID" Service is not Started the remote has no effect even though you
see red light on USB pick up. Check it: right click My Computer->Manage
select Services in "Sevices and Applications" where you will see HID which
should be Auto. Right click to Properties where you can set Startup type and
activate. Useful outside of MCE for audio volume next song, next picture etc.
If this isn't solution, you could try Device Manager, or other answers.
