Anyone out there knows how to remap the external buttons eg. the media
player buttons play/pause, prev and next buttons ??

Just bought the 3125/8500/StarTrk/Smartflip smartphone and I love it!
It would great if those buttons can be set for other functions eg -
switching on Bluetooth, etc.

Much appreciated....

Cheers,
Chris Oh

Thanks, but that doesn't help as I'm not sure you've understood what I
want to achieve. I don't wish to use those external buttons for media
player function. I was hoping that the remapping of these external
buttons can be done with a registry hack or if there is an application
that would do it.

It'd be great if I could remap the button to say toggle on/off
Bluetooth, initiate ActiveSync, etc.

Thanks

start/settings/personal/buttons???

You can run any shortcut or any control panel applet shortcut such as
the bluetooth manager located in the control panel, generally down to
the tab level... however, without custom programming, toggles generally
require an action after the applet is open.

Step one is to generate the shortcut you need and put it into the
windows\startmenu\programs folder or subfolder, soft reset, then run the
above.

google for pocketpc control panel shortcuts as there is an msdn page
with the details on how to set up a control panel shortcut.

Thanks for the reply

Err.. I don't have the "personal" option - I have a dopod s301
smartphone (sold recently in Australia) which is the equivalent of an
imate smartflip/htc star trk/cingular 3125 smartphone. I can't find the
"button" option you've mentioned - this is my start/settings options:-

(on page 1)
Phone, Sounds, Profiles, Home Screen, External Screen, Clock & Alarm,
Connections, Security, Power Management

(on page 2)
Remove Programs, Accessibility, Regional Settings, Owner Information,
About, Error Reporting, GPRS Authentication, CSD Line Type, System
Information

As you can see the "buttons" option you are referring to isn't available
on my Windows Mobile Smartphone and besides isn't that only available on
a Pocket PC ? I might be a total "ignoramus" :) but I've searched
through the options and I can't find any button assignment application.

In any case, the issue isn't with creating the shortcut but rather with
assigning the shortcut to a button, and this looks to be unavailable,
well at least for my phone anyway. :(

Cheers,
