Registry settings failed Mike 08-08-2006

I had ActivesSync 3.7 installed and working fine on my PC (Windows XP Pro)
and then decided to upgrade to 4.2.
After that even thought the "mobile device" appeared in Windows explorer I
could not open the device and explore the contents.
Similarly, I cannot "explore" the device via ActiveSync.
Uninstalled 4.2 and tried to re-install 3.7.
Now I get an error message "Registry Settings Failed" "Setup failed to
create on for more registry settings..................."
Still cannot "explore the device"

Any help will be greatly apprec.

Am logged in with full admin rights.
Uninstall/Install and I still get the same message "Setup failed to create
one or more registry settings................."
Reinstall as it suggests and still the same answer.
Seems as though the Registry Settings that are not being installed are those
that will allow the PC/Mobile Device to talk to each other.
The PC knows the Device is there, but cannot communicate.

Problem is PC specific as using Active Sync on another of my PC's I have
full ActiveSync functionality
