I use windows XP.
While using my computer, the screen went blank and my system rebooted.

During reboot a screen appeared that allows me to choose the type bootup I
desired. I selectect to reboot from the last known working configuration.
My machine booted up but it used an old registry. Now nothing works
properly. Most of my desktop Icons are no longer available. I dont have
access to most of my applications. All of my settings are gone and I cant
even use help or system restore. Now when I try to access windows help I get
the following error: "Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe'. Make sure you typed
the name correctly, and then try again".

Also, when I select the "start" and then try to select "programs" nothing
happens. None of my applications are available.

Is there some way that I can restore my old registry settings and get my old
desktop back?

Please Help.

Do you have a recent System State backup or Full System Backup? Do you have
a recently saved Restore Point in System Restore?
