I have a client who's computer lost power during the most recent Windows
update process (yes she was not using a UPS, but she is now) and now it won't
boot even in safe mode. The computer runs XP Media Edition; unfortunately she
never made recovery disks either.

Can the system be rebooted using a full Windows XP Home Edition operating
system CD so we can try a System Restore to the day before the update, or do
we have to find an XP Media Edition disk?

Thank you

When you press F8 , Do you get an option to boot to safe mode or last known
good configuration. You might want to try last known good option to see if
that helps. If that does not do it, then use original CD's that came with the
machine that has all the motherboard drivers/nic card/sound card and so on to
rebuild

We do get this option and have tried it, but the PC never completly boots.
It gets stuck on the Windows logo page and never fully loads.

She does not have any disks that the computer came with and no recovery
disks were made, but thank you for the reply!

You need to use the built-in Recovery partition to recover this system,
unless you can provide more information on the issue of not booting (errors,
etc.). Using an XP Home edition CD to try to repair the installation will
cause more problems than it will solve.
