I am new to the recording of programs off my new comcast digital HD set top
box.
I have an HP PC running Windows Media Center and an ethernet port on both my
pc and set top box.
I connect the STB to my HD TV with HDMI cables and there is a USB port on my
STB and PC as well. I'm trying to avaoid having to purchase another hardware
item (TIVO etc) to do simple recording. I don't require watching and
recording two programs at the same time, just simple recording for later
viewing.
I also have the original TV tuner for my PC that was connected to another
Comcast cable in a different room, but not via a STB so I had just 99 channel
choices rather than channels higher than this.
I have been told I should be able to do this. But don't know how to even
record off of comcast from my HDTV screen. I hit the record button accidently
and it said it ws recording the program but I have no idea to where or how it
ws doing that without my haveing a DVR attached anywhere in the system. The
red recording dot appeared in front of the program but I'm certain nothing ws
getting recorded unless there is a hard drive in the STB? Ver confused.

AS always, thanks folks.

It appears that you have DVR STB. What model STB is it?

A motorola DCH 3200 form Comcast One of their new ones with several HDMI
ports and USB ports and S-Video and Optical audio and component. Guess I
didn't even realize that Comcast "supplies" me with a DVR at all? Told you I
was new to this. Any ideas?

I do not think the box is a PVR box so the record option may mean that the
box is supplying output over a Fire wire connection.
You need a dual tuner STB if you want to watch one live program while you
record another;
I would suggest getting the Comcast PVR box to satisfy this capability if
you want it.
