Just wondering, how much did you understand of the above Dutch lines?
(I have no idea how much a German person would understand actually)

I thought it was something to the effect that Portuguese was close to
Spanish, and your Portuguese was better than Spanish. I am thinking "ik" is
"ich" , "bettje" - better or besser, "mijn" "mij" - mine and my. Also
probably something about it was good enough to post.:-)

Now if you spoke it I would not have been able to understand unless it was
slow and I could here it all. Or maybe not as the sounds would be to a
virgin ear again.:-)

Tonnie said that Spanish and Portuguese were similar, and I said that
I 'Spanified' my Portuguese for this post, and that I thought he'd
understand it :-)

> I am thinking "ik" is "ich" ,

Correct

> "bettje" - better or besser,

beetje = bit, little, few :-)
('better' would be 'beter')

> "mijn" "mij" - mine and my.

mijn = mine, my
mij = me

> Also probably something about it was good enough to post.:-)

Spanified enough for the OP to understand :-)

I usually find that in such cases, hearing and reading at the same
time gives the best chance of understanding what is said. Some words
are more similar in sound, others in writing. (not only with German).

Just like what John mentioned in another post, the Spanish "Estar
Guars". Looking at it, I had no clue what to think of it, except for
'estar' being Portuguese for 'to be'. But when Spanish people
pronounce it, you will instantly hear "Star Wars" ;-)
(okay, so it isn't really Spanish, just fonetic English for Spanish
speaking people <g>)
