The reason is that the Motorola Q is a Smartphone, not a Pocket PC phone.
Microsoft has never ported its office suite (Word, Exel etc) to Smartphone,
and no Smartphone has ever shipped with Word.
Yes, this is VERY ennoying - this is why Pocket PC phones have a very big
advantage over Smartphone.
This is especially ennoying on Smartphones that have a keyboard, like the
Motorola Q. The justification from MSFT for not having Word on Smartphone
was that Smartphone are not "data-input-oriented-devices" because of the
lack of touch-screen and the pain of entering text using just a numeric pad.
But of course that's not true anymore, and Smartphones with a keyboard are
maybe even better for entering text than, say, Pocket PC with just touch
screen and no keyboard.
Hopefully this will change in the futur, as MSFT road-map is going into the
"merging" of the Pocket PC and Smartphone platform sometimes in the future.
So hopefully this means that some version of Word will be available a future
Windows Mobile platform.
