There were a few Soviet landers, weren't there, including one that
managed to transmit for only a few seconds after landing, but which
nevertheless *did* make it to the surface in some sort of working
order.
And there are some that didn't make it, but which are probably
not totally wrecked: the Mars Polar Lander, for example, and maybe
Beagle 2.
I made no claim to have done an exact count, but my guess of about a
dozen recognizable spacecraft on the Martian surface is probably pretty
close to the truth.
