Actually, I did eventually solve this, I don't know how many months (/years?)
after I originally posted the question below.
First of all, you need to change the settings in the MCE Intervideo plugin
EVERYTIME you put a DVD in the drive.
Second of all, and more importantly, you need to make sure you PLAY A BIT of
the DVD, if only for a few seconds, BEFORE you go change the settings in the
Intervideo plugin - otherwise the changes won't be retained (as I complained
about originally).
If this final resolution is a bit late to still help SirLinkan (or for him
to notice it), hope it at least helps anyone else who might run into this
issue!
