Questions about a self powered USB Hub Roy 04-07-2008

Having only 3 usb port in my laptop and not enough for my USB devices,
I purchased a USB Hub that has its own power supply. This USB hub
having its own AC adapter therefore should be expected not to drain
down the power of my laptop or can be as fast as the existing USB
ports in my laptop. To my surprise whenever I connect an external
flash drive or External hard drive it keep saying that:

"This device can perform faster if you connect it to a high speed USB
port."
When I clicked to open the supposed high speed USB Port it says:

"HIGH SPEED USB device is attached to a non high speed USB hub.
The USB Mass storage device is a high speed USB mass storage device
and will function at reduced speed into a non high speed USB port.
The hubs shown in bold type have free ports that can support high
speed USB devices
Intel 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller 265C
USB ROOT hub 8 ports
For a list of available port Click here."

Now I am quiet perplexed how come there are 8 High speed USB port when
I count the actual USB ports as only 3! Where are the other 5 High
speed USB Ports?
Does this mean that this Self powered USB hub is useless for for High
speed USB Port or is there a turn around of this device that I am
not aware off and therefore, can still function normally as the
existing laptop usb port?
Please somebody enlighten me about this perplexity.
TIA

That message normally indicates that your laptop has only "old" USB 1.1 ports.
You can suppress the message by a check box out of Device Manager, but
that doesn't affect the reality of the situation.

Is this an older machine that might well date from the USB 1.1 era?

Hello Art
My laptop is made in the 2005 and therefore is fitted with USB2.0 .
ports and not the USB Version 1.1 ports(It was also stated in the
technical specs);therefore there is something weird if it keeps saying
such whenever I run and external USB hard drive from that USB hub?

Did you try running the device directly from the laptop USB port. If you
don't get the warning, you should try a different USB hub.

Hi Terry, it was okey( runs normally with no warning) if I run the
devices from the Laptop USB port; but not with an externally powered
USB hub.
