BTW, just for completeness, I did have some iFilters installed from
using the beta, but I uninstalled those iFilters, uninstalled the beta,
rebooted, and then installed the new v2.01.... I repeated this several
times, removing all add-ins from Outlook, etc., and always the same end
results...which was that the Advanced Options dialog was greyed out and
a message shown saying Desktop Search couldn't start, please uninstall,
reboot, and reinstall.

I found the solution in the registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RSSearch\ContentIndexCommon\Previewers

and choose the extensions you want to add, like, .doc;.xls etc, save it in
the registry and wala it will work

Use the Win-enable to choose the boxes you want to check and this solutuon
will work till MSN comes up with a real fix

I Had the same problem, i was trying to fix it using windows enabler, but it
was impossible... i've donde the following thing: Uninstalled the toolbar,
reboot the computer, once you're logged in you MUST exit from any antivirus,
and specially the microsoft antispyware, and if possible from all active
programs (those in the tray), then you should reinstall the toolbar, and
that's it ... I found that some antivirus and antispyware software denies
access to the registry.. these problem must be fixed by microsoft as soon as
possible.
