I have the same exact problem.

I mnagaed to find a partial workaround for it

Downlaod windows enbaler
http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/speedload/index.html

That allows you to click on greyed out controls. Just use that to clik on
the advanced options. You can't use that to enter text (where it says about
wht files to preview and what ones to treat as text), however it works for
all the other options like changing what it searchs.

Look like this is a common bug, I hope a real soultion or a fix get posted
soon

I have had this same problem on the 2nd PC I tried to install it on.
Numerous uninstalls and reinstalls don't help. There must be an
incompatibility with an already installed program. I have removed several
programs so far, with no results.

It's very disappointing when a program like this won't even install. I had
no problems with the beta version.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Windows 2003 Server and the Beta
ran fine, but I've installed this latest release a number of times now and
I'm seeing the same message.

What is weird though is that I seem to be able to search OK. I'm just not
able to make any changes to the way the indexing is configured.

Me three (or four, or whatever) ...same problem here...beta version
worked fine, but v2.01...says it can't start the desktop search...that
I should uninstall and reinstall (which I did 3 times)...and the
advanced options are all greyed out.

Frustrating!
