I've seen Windows installs take that long on the first step - something
having to do with not having a cache set up for the CD. I'm not aware of
this happening with XP.
I bet the Windows ID number they're talking about is the long number/letter
sequence you enter when you're installing - it should be on a sticker either
on the CD case or accompanying paperwork.
You might want to ask this in one of the XP forums - we support Media Center
PCs here.
