My office bought a couple of new IPAQ machines last week. I setup and
installed activesync fine on three machines and they all happily synced
without any problems. On Monday one of the machines was rebooted and
activesync wouldn't run on that machine. When you double click the icon
it starts for a moment and then shuts down. I tried updating it to
activesync 4.2 (it was 4.1) but it did the same thing. The log files
read:

I tried reinstalling and uninstalling it but both things gave an error
about the Windows installer, which was working fine 20 minutes before
hand. Since then I've tried using windows restore to go back to before
activesync was installed. That lets me install it, but then it still
doesn't run and gives the same error messages. It also won't let me
uninstall it. I've also tried going back to 4.1 but that also gives the
same error messages.
Between all the installs and uninstalls I've deleted all the files in
the activesync directory and tried deleteing RAPI.dll in the system
directories.
I then tried updating another machine that I knew was working from 4.1.
to 4.2. As soon as I did that and rebooted I got all the same problems
and all the same error messages. Also that machine is reporting errors
with the windows installer, and it had none before. The only way I can
get rid of that problem is to use windows restore (I tried registering
msiexec, and installing the 3.1 package with no luck), but then I can't
install activesync.
I've looked online and found similar problems, but the solutions that
were posted haven't seem to have worked. I even tried going back to 3.8
to see if that would work, but I get file copy errors on a file that I
can copy fine manually. If this was happing on one machine I would like
it was something about the machine, but it's happen on two seperate
machines with completely different hardware configs. The only thing
that is similar is they both have XPSP2 on them.
Any ideas?
